Bondi di Mazo first lesson (Marco Ferrari / Rapier)

My seminar, divided into two lessons, is an introduction to the fencing systems of the Masters of northern Italy of the second half of the seventeenth century.
Specifically, we will use the treatise by the Venetian author Bondì di Mazo due to its schematicity, clarity of language and his strong teaching vocation.

The first lesson will cover the fundamental aspects of late baroque northern Italian fencing: we will analyze the guard position, the structure of the botta dritta, the different attitudes on the blade and some simple actions.

The second lesson will analyze a significant sequence of cuts and thrusts by Master Bondì di Mazo, a rather complex and structured action, partly atypical for the Italian treatise of the time.
